saturday, sept. 13 jo henley to perform at gulu-gulu
The Boston-area band Jo Henley will perform a show Saturday, Sept. 13 at 9 p.m. at the Gulu-Gulu Café in Salem, at the corner of Washington and Essex. No cover charge.
The band’s sound is a blend of country- and bluegrass-tinged acoustic pop that draws comparisons to Nickel Creek, Ryan Adams, Neil Young and the Grateful Dead. Released in April, Jo Henley’s latest CD features bassist Tony Markellis, from Trey Anastasio’s (of Phish) solo band, whom the members of Jo Henley befriended just prior to going into the studio last winter.

Salem residents and city employees are invited to enjoy a day of fun at the Wenham Museum Saturday, Sept. 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is sponsored by Salem Five Bank. The Wenham Museum is located at 132 Main St., Wenham. Proof of Salem residency and/or employment is required.
Take a short drive or ride the train to visit the North Shore’s only family-friendly, hands-on history museum, exploring how New Englanders have lived, worked, dressed and played from the 17th century to today.
The museum’s world-famous doll collection features American cloth dolls, European porcelain dolls, 20th-century play dolls and Miss Columbia, the doll who traveled around the world. Train fans will enjoythe Bennett Merry Model Train Gallery, with 10 model train layouts in various gauges that operate at the push of a button; railroad memorabilia; antique toy trains and train experts to answer questions on railroad history and lore. Don’t miss the special exhibition “Rescue Me! Fighting Fire in America,”where equipment, artifacts, apparel and hands-on activities show the evolution of firefighting over 300 years.
