Begala: It’s time for Coleman to concede

Ξ January 29th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

(CNN) — You know you’re low when you have lower ethical standards than a convicted felon, but that’s where former Sen. Norm Coleman finds himself.

His fellow former senator, Ted Stevens of Alaska, decided not to contest his narrow defeat.

Stevens had little realistic chance of overturning the result, and Alaska needed both its senators as hundreds of billions of dollars were being spent by Congress. Even though he betrayed the public trust, Stevens’ last public act put his state first.

adventure movies Not so for Coleman, of Minnesota, who has gone to court to block Al Franken from taking office as the newly elected senator. The case could drag on for weeks or even months — and all the while, Minnesota will be fighting for federal funds with one senator tied behind its back.

Dennis wolf

When initial election night reports suggested a narrow Coleman win, Coleman said if he were trailing, he would forgo a recount and called on Franken to do so. "If you ask me what I would do," he said, "I would step back. I just think the need for the healing process is so important."

Don’t Miss

But apparently the healing process is less important to former Sen. Coleman now than it was in November. Of course, that’s not the first example of former Sen. Coleman employing situational ethics.

He was, after all, a self-professed Clinton-Gore Democrat who morphed into a Bush-Cheney Republican. He decried unscrupulous trial lawyers who file lawsuits on behalf of consumers — and now has filed a lawsuit seeking to have the courts giveth what the voters hath taken away.

While former Sen. Coleman litigates, Minnesota misses out. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is doing all she can, but right now, Minnesota download horror movies has only one more vote in the Senate than Burkina Faso.

Give it up, former Sen. Coleman. You’re like one of those Japanese soldiers hiding in the caves in the 1970s; like one of those doctors who keeps shocking the dead patient 30 minutes after he flat-lines; like a pathetic, creepy stalker.

You had a count, then a recount. Hundreds of Minnesotans participated. Each ballot was painstakingly and publicly examined.

A bipartisan state canvassing board supervised the whole process and declared that Franken has won. It’s over.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Paul Begala.

Octuplets breathing on their own, doctors say

Ξ January 28th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

(CNN) — California octuplets believed to be the nation’s second live-born set were "doing very well" one day after their birth, and aside from some oxygen assistance, all the babies were breathing on their own, doctors said Tuesday.

Some of the 46 doctors, nurses and other team members who helped deliver the octuplets.

“They had a very good night,” director of neonatology Dr. Mandhir Gupta, far left, said of the babies.

The babies’ mother, who is recovering from her Caesarean section, has not been able to visit the babies in their incubators, but is "very excited" when hospital staffers bring her pictures, said Dr. Mandhir Gupta, director of neonatology for Kaiser Permanente’s Bellflower Medical Center in Bellflower, California, where the octuplets were born.

"They had a very good night," Gupta said of the babies — six boys and two girls, ranging in weight from 1 pound 8 ounces to 3 pounds 4 ounces. "Their vitals remain stable. They were sleeping comfortably."

Their mother, who hospital officials said wants to remain anonymous, will likely be able to visit her babies later Tuesday night or Wednesday, he said.

Two of the babies were on ventilators, or breathing tubes, in the hours after their birth, but those tubes were removed Monday night, Gupta said. While some of the babies are receiving oxygen through their noses, most of them are breathing by themselves, he said.

Gupta said four of the babies will begin feedings Tuesday, and feedings will be increased once the newborns’ tolerance improves. "They are kicking," he said. "They are doing amazingly well."

The babies have not been named yet, said Dr. Harold Henry, the hospital’s chief of maternal and fetal medicine. Asked if the babies’ mother was aware of the publicity the births have generated, he said, "To some degree, yes."

Doctors initially believed the woman was carrying seven fetuses. She was put on bed rest at 23 weeks, and delivered the babies at 30 weeks. A team of 46 doctors, nurses and other staff prepared for the births over that seven-week period.

"We were extremely well-prepared for this delivery, except for one small surprise," said Dr. Karen Maples, chief of obstetrics and gynecology for the hospital.

During the delivery Monday, doctors were taking the babies out one by one, naming them for a letter of the alphabet and giving them to an assigned nurse, she said. After "G," the team thought they had all the babies, but "I said, ‘Well, now we have H, everyone,’" she recalled.

"The G nurse became the H nurse, and took it over to the F doctor … it just went seamlessly."

Multiple ultrasounds only found seven fetuses, she said. Asked how the eighth was missed, she said, "It is just a matter of positioning. The

Hamas Hijack’s Gaza AID Convoy—> Media Silent

much of the mainstream media coverage of israel’s offensive in gaza was littered with the usual stupidity. using typical statements, like “tit for tat,” or “cycle of violence.” the media did its best to bargain a moral viagra ohne rezept equivalence between the hamas terrorism and israel’s attempts to prevent that terror. those same newscasts that displayed of the destruction in gaza very hardly ever showed the horrors of the negev communities such as sderot.that same media retaliate adapted to noble sounding adjectives for hamas delight in defiant. but israel was described as seeking revenge.according to president obama’s plo buddy rashid khalidi the reason benefit of the media angle is simple, they are getting all of their information from hamas: the rest of the world sees what’s thriving on, because they’re taking the feeds by palestinian journalists in gaza, and the pictures and images by themselves and the numbers that you recited let something be known the tall tale. outseteven though israel withdrew from gaza, the media is still doing its win out over to protect the hamas image. after the “cease-fire” an aid convoy from jordan, was attacked and hijacked. that’s news right? especially with all of the whining about the “human rights crisis” in gaza. thoroughly except for the mann news service that operates out of the west bank, nobody noticed (or cipher wanted to bring it up).see more below: report: jordanian aid convoy hijacked in gaza bethlehem ? ma’an ? the jordanian news agency petra reported on tuesday that armed men held up an aid convoy after it crossed into the gaza strip.the power reported that armed men fired at the trucks and diverted them to private warehouses after they passed through the kerem shalom border crossing, an israeli-controlled crossing worn mostly for shipments of humanitarian aid.the supplies had been donated by the hashemite jordanian charity organization. the trucks earlier crossed into the west bank using the allenby bridge and then proceed to gaza.according to the report, the charity had coordinated in headway with unrwa, the un’s agency on palestinian refugees, to be given the shipment in its warehouses after it entered gaza.also according to the report, unrwa has suspended other aid shipments as the trucks and drivers are noiselessness being held in gaza. negotiations are reportedly being held for their release.please email me at yidwithlid@aol.com download drama movies to be put onto my mailing list. finish feeling free to reproduce any article but please link turn tail from to http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com

Thank bush

WhiteHouse.gov Used to Slam Bush

WhiteHouse.gov, the official website of the president, was turned into a permanent campagn tool only hours after President Barack Obama took office. The website, which is supposed to be quite neutral, is used to pimp Obama himself, and to attack former President George W. Bush.

Presidents attacking presidents is ‘not done.’ One elections are over, the new president says nothing negative about his predecessors, whether he respects them all or not.

Obama broke with that tradition by having a staffer call Bush’s response to Hurricane Katrina “unconscionable ineptitude” and adding that ‘President Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.’

Conservative blogger Don Surber responded furiously to the swipe at Bush. ‘This is the Official White House site. I pay taxes. I own it. The 48% of the people who voted for someone else deeply resent the petty partisanship. It is galling,’ he writes at his blog.

Surber is right. It is galling. It also in breach with tradition. Presidents do not criticize let alone lambast each other. Obama could criticize Bush during the campaign. Once he moved into the White House he had to refrain from doing so, however.

We can only hope that the text will be deleted ASAP and that Obama et alia will stop insulting the 43rd president of the United States. If Obama is serious about bringing the country together he has to treat Bush with the respect a former president deserves.
