WASHINGTON (CNN) — Two Maryland State Police personnel, a medical technician and a teenager were killed when a medical evacuation helicopter crashed Sunday in suburban Maryland, police said.

The Maryland State Police helicopter crashed early Sunday morning, killing four of the five people on board, said Col. Terrence Sheridan, superintendent of the Maryland State Police.

The state police identified those killed as: pilot Stephen Bunker, a retired trooper; Trooper 1st Class Mickey Lippy, who was acting as flight paramedic; Tanya Mallard, an emergency medical technician with the Waldorf, Maryland, Rescue Squad; and patient Ashley Younger, 17.

Federal and state authorities were trying to determine what caused the crash, Sheridan said.

The helicopter was on its way to Prince George’s Hospital with Younger and Wells, who had been critically injured in a Charles County, Maryland, car crash. The helicopter went down in a wooded area on a park trail in the Capitol Heights/Ritchie communities, Sheridan said.

Sheridan characterized the crash as the worst in the history of the police department.

The pilot radioed that he was going back to Andrews Air Force Base to avoid bad weather just before midnight, Brady said. Two ambulances were sent to Andrews to meet the helicopter and carry the patients to the trauma center.

But radio contact with the helicopter was lost and the wreckage was found after a two-hour search, authorities said.

I call upon the McCain campaign to stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower who will wilt at any moment.

This woman is from Alaska for crying out loud. She is strong, she is tough, she is confident. And you claim she is ready to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. If that is the case, then end this chauvinistic treatment of her now. Allow her to show her stuff.

Campbell’s "rant" was just ridiculous. The media including CNN have themselves to blame for Palin being protected. None of the extreme, harsh rumors, etc., have been said about any of the other candidates. If the media is frustrated, who cares. They certainly didn’t care what they were doing in the weeks after she was selected. I’ve lost much respect for those covering this election. Bias is clear, and that is not journalism. I will not be watching this program again — as Campbell said — I’ve had enough.

He will be joined by Liu Boming and Jing Haipeng on the Shenzhou VII mission - set to launch on 25 September at 1310 GMT (2110 local time).

State-run news agency Xinhua said the “yuhangyuan” (astronauts) were making final preparations for the lift-off.

The spacewalk is scheduled to be broadcast live with cameras inside and outside the spacecraft.

Mr Zhai will undertake the 40-minute manoeuvre outside the Shenzhou VII capsule on the afternoon of either 26 or 27 September, reports say.

As the spacecraft orbits Earth, the air force pilot, who is married with one son, will enter the vacuum module with one other yuhangyuan.

The other crew member will then help Mr Zhai put on the heavy spacesuit, which is worth about 100 million yuan (?8m; $15m), Chinese media reports.

The suit is based largely on Russian designs. But two types of suit, one Chinese-made, the other manufactured in Russia, will be carried up on the spacecraft.

Liu Boming is reported to be the first substitute for the spacewalk. All three yuhangyuan celebrate their 42nd birthdays this year.
