Rank the Cowboys’ running backs

The Cowboys have quite an interesting situation at running back heading into next season. We’ll focus on how the snaps might be split at this position plenty during the long off-season. Right now, I’m curious to see how the fans would rank the team’s three RBs that have proven they can produce in the NFL.

The candidates, in alphabetical order:

Marion Barber: After making the Pro Bowl as a backup and signing a seven-year, $45 million extension, Barber had a rocky first season as a full-time starter. He finished with 885 yards and seven TDs on 238 carries (3.7 yards per carry) and 417 yards and two TDs on 52 catches. He had three 100-yard performances, highlighted by him carrying the Cowboys to a road win over Washington. He missed a game and a half after dislocating his right pinkie toe on Thanksgiving and never came close to returning to form. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry in each of the previous two seasons, when he scored 28 total touchdowns.

Tashard Choice: The fourth-round pick watched from the sideline most of the season and seized the opportunity when he got it. Choice was by far the Cowboys’ best offensive player during December, when he had 488 total yards and two TDs against four of the league’s elite defenses. Finished the season with 472 yards and two TDs on 92 carries (5.2 ypc) and 185 yards on 21 catches. The knock was that he doesn’t possess breakaway speed, but he had 13 double-digit runs, including a 38-yard TD that sealed the win over the Giants.

Felix Jones: First-round pick showed flashes of brilliances until a torn hamstring halted his rookie season after six games. He had to get surgery on his big toe after injuring it during rehab but is expected to be healthy for minicamps. Averaged an eye-popping 8.9 yards per carry (266 yards and three TDs on 30 carries). Never got involved in passing game (two catches, 10 yards) despite a lot of training camp talk about his receiving ability. Does not pass protect nearly as well as Barber or Choice, but is a willing blocker.
