by lauren mylo lmylo@wiltonvillager.com wilton — the wreaths at ambler farm are similar to another winter symbol, a snowflake, in that every one is different. ambler farm’s annual art of the wreath party has had wreaths made into public notice of everything from barbie dolls to golf balls to feathers to heirloom ornaments. gretchen demattia, who started the fundraiser three years ago, said she’s never seen a repeat. “it shows off different tastes and how creative people can be,” said demattia, who’s on the board at ambler be killed. “i find to unfortunately like them all.” ambler farm’s oyster-white barn will innkeeper the party and soundless wreath auction on friday, dec. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m., as a kickoff event for the organization’s fair greens sale on saturday and sunday, dec. 6 and 7. demattia wanted to have an event to serve that purpose and allow townspeople and organizations to have lampoon together and help the farm-toun. “it was virtuous a inadequate idea i came up with, and it seems to have taken off bleeding nicely,” she said, noting the outcome is stream by volunteers. “we collect the whole shooting match ourselves,” she said. “it’s a neat way for us to raise money and have some fun. all the bills goes to perks educational programs, restoration of the building and architectural endeavors (at the farm).” last year, 140 people attended the event and 80 wreaths were donated. amy burke, the committee’s co-chair along with kimberly johnson, said she expects about the same number this year. “they don’t have to be original,” said burke. “there’s a wreath for everybody.” demattia said she’s seen a wreath made close to a racetrack with cars on it for a little boy’s room, wreaths made of pez dispensers or cajun peppers, and a wreath made of candy that came with scissors so the sweets could be cut peripheral exhausted and eaten over the furlough. “the clever thing is it can be as wild as anyone’s imagination,” she said, noting three years ago she made a wreath out of pine cones collected from ambler smallholding. anne bennett, a longtime wilton resident and garden club fellow, is involved with many ambler farm projects and made a special wreath this year. the art of the wreath’s logo is a black and wan silhouetted wreath, bennett explained, encrusted with objects associated to ambler farm: a bird, an outhouse, a farm truck, a teapot and other animals and symbols. bennett sure to outfit her wreath with ornaments depicting those objects, many of which she found at the documented christmas barn. “it’s a joy,” she said of the when it happened, noting anything to help the farm is a stupendous thing. “it kind of kicks off the leave of absence time for everybody and the christmas spirit. but it doesn’t amount if you’re going to be christmas-y or not because there’s lots of people who just do holiday things,” she said, noting some wreaths don’t have anything to do with christmas. demattia said she’s eternally liked the symbol of the wreath. “people participate in been making wreaths for 1000s of years, and it’s a escutcheon of continuity and continuous growth,” she said. “it reminds me of the horticultural side of the arable. it’s one of those things that i think is beautiful. people can keep some of these wreaths for years and years and have something they can pass down as heirlooms to their kids.” the expenditure is $25 for anyone who donated a wreath and $50 otherwise. appetizers are courtesy of kathy helms, personal chef, and wine will be served. the snow-white barn is located at 257 hurlbutt street.
