While invoking Martin Luther King, Glenn Beck Attacked Obama For Being Anti-White
During his show on 1/20/09, the day of Barack Obama’s inauguration, Glenn Beck purported to be celebrating the election of an African American. “Martin Luther King’s dream has come to life,” Beck began. But then he added, “Or at least I thought so.” Beck’s problem was the benediction by civil rights icon Rev. Joseph Lowery. The next thing you knew, Beck was accusing Lowery and Obama of attacking white people. With video.

Lowery’s offending words were: “We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right.”
“Even at the inauguration of a black president, we are being called racist,” Beck complained. This, from the man who asked the first Muslim Congressman, Keith Ellison, to prove that he was not working with our enemies.
“Mr. President ? I want to believe. I want to trust. I want to hope for change,” Beck claimed. Then he added, “But I am really failing to see how this is any different. USA Today reports that you smiled when he said this and shook your head. And it’s not like you didn’t know what you were getting yourself into. This is the same Reverend Lowery that even made Coretta Scott King’s funeral about politics!”
Coincidentally, Sean Hannity also attacked Rev. Lowery for his comments about Coretta Scott King’s funeral. In my post about it, I asked if there was anything more tasteless than smearing a funeral. I don’t know… but smearing the inauguration of America’s first black president with charges of racism while invoking the name of Martin Luther King has got to be a close contender.

Proposed Iraq Psyop: No More Boring Leaflets
As part of a 247-page document dump on the Iraq war, the Department of Defense last week made public some interesting psychological operations leaflets that were proposed for the impending military campaign. The Memory Hole has put together an excellent gallery of the leaflets, which were apparently never dropped.

The Pentagon also released a memo (reproduced here) by Marshall Billingslea, then the principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low intensity conflict, to Doug Feith, the Pentagon’s former policy chief. “Doug,” he writes, “We have been sort of underwhelmed by the quality of the leaflets dropped over Iraq. Most of them are boring.”
Billingslea proposes sending the new leaflet designs to U.S. Central Command as “food for thought.”
U.S. forces dropped millions of “surrender” leaflets during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. But the classic psyops tool has also been used extensively in the subsequent counterinsurgency. During fighting in Sadr City this spring, U.S. and Iraqi helicopters blanketed the area with leaflets encouraging local residents to turn against Shia militia members.
