RDSL UK via NewsEdge Corporation : Asian mobile phone makers have taken the lead over Nokias top selling models in UK Christmas sales, reports the Financial Times, citing mobile phone retailers. NECs 616 clamshell handset was the most popular pay-as-you-go phone, and LGs 8120 folding videophone was the top seller with contract tariffs said retailer The Link. Both NEC and LG have strong support from Hutchison operator 3. Most stores have been selling the NEC phone without a contract for under GBP 30, one of the lowest prices on the market for prepaid use. Nokia has kept its market leadership at the lower end of the market, offering about three of the five top-selling phones, said The Link. Siemens, which usually sells at least two of the top five prepaid phones at Christmas, had none in the top five this year. Nokia, Samsung and Motorola offered some of the most popular postpaid phones.
