Attention Business/Financial Editors

OTTAWA, ON, Aug. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Mitel(R), a leading provider of IPcommunications solutions, for small and medium businesses and distributedenterprises, today announced that an industry research report released byInfonetics Research Inc. confirms the company’s growing market momentum.

“Out of all the incumbent players, Mitel has been at the forefront of theTDM to IP transition,” said Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst withInfonetics. “Many hybrid PBX vendors are still extensively relying on TDMtechnologies, and there are certainly valid reasons for doing so. The speed atwhich Mitel has moved from TDM to an IP architecture has reached all the waydown to the user, which is why we see them ahead of much larger competitors. In the end, customers are the real winners, as they’ll be able to takeadvantage of all the capabilities IP has to offer.”

According to the recently published “Enterprise Telephony, Quarterlyworldwide market share and forecasts for 2Q05″, Infonetics places Mitel secondworldwide in IP lines shipped on hybrid PBXs in the second quarter 2005 behindAlcatel with 21 percent. Mitel maintains its lead over Avaya and supplantedNortel in the quarter. Mitel’s market share of IP lines shipped on hybrid PBXsincreased two percentage points over the same period last year. In a study ofNorth American organizations using IP voice, Infonetics found that that hybridPBXs, already the most common equipment type used to provide voice services atrespondent headquarter sites, will be the future platform of choice, used by38 percent of respondents by January 2007 (up from 30 percent today).

“This is further independent validation that Mitel has completed itstransformation from a traditional PBX business to one where now fewer than 10percent of platforms we ship are TDM,” said Don Smith, Chief ExecutiveOfficer, Mitel. “We are bringing it all together with an award-winningportfolio of solutions, strong and deepening industry partnerships, and aunmatched focus to bring the value of IP Communications to business usersworldwide.”
