Pune-based Kalyani Steel has formed a joint venture with Gerdau of Brazil. The two companies each hold 45% of the new company; while the remaining 10% is held by investors. The new company will operate SJK Steel, a steel plant in Andhra Pradesh. SJK Steel, which Kalyani recently bought, is a 900-acre plant with an annual production capacity of 275,000 tonnes. The joint venture plans to install new production facilities and to expand the capacity of the plant to 1.6m tonnes per year.
