Caroline Kennedy selected for Obama’s VP search team

“i have on no occasion had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. but looking for the first on many occasions, i believe i have found the squire who could be that president — not just for me, but for a uncharted generation of americans.” – caroline kennedy, in her january 27 nyt op-ed, a president like my founderwith more high-excess superdelegates supporting clinton — tom harkin and walter mondale — switching over to obama, the illinois senator and understood dem nominee, made this smart move.barack obama pivoted at to the general election campaign for the white billet on wednesday, naming a three-man team including caroline kennedy to conduct his search in favour of a running mate while expressing self-assurance that the democratic cocktail would soon unify after a bruising mel?e an eye to the presidential nomination.

…Campaign officials said Kennedy, who is the daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy, as well as former Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder and longtime Washington insider Jim Johnson have already begun compiling information on potential running mates. They disclosed no names.

Obama clinched the Democratic nomination on Tuesday, taking a major step toward his goal of becoming the first black president. While Clinton has yet to concede defeat, she and associates have been maneuvering for the past 24 hours to gain her a place on the ticket.ABC News and CNN are reporting that Hillary will officially end her candidacy on Friday.

One of those “associates” mentioned above is magnate Bob Johnson, who sent a letter designed to pressure the Congressional Black Caucus to back Clinton for the VP slot (my post on that is here). By Obama naming this vetting panel in short order, this signals that there is a deliberate process under way that will not be pre-empted by back room deals in the next few days. I’m not sure how the various constituencies will react and respond, given the intense feelings about the outcome of this primary season.
