A Rose by Any Other Name
Amid the hustle and bustle, Dixon Davis stands on Colorado Boulevard handing out roses. He and his wife, Aleksandra, have been handing out leftover roses since 1998.
“I like giving them to children,” said the engineer, handing a passerby a yellow rose from a large plastic bag of yellow, red and white roses. “They seem to like the flowers.”
Dixon and his wife met at school when they worked on decorating the Cal Poly float. Since graduating, they have come back from their South Carolina home to help out and to distribute unused flowers.
“It’s a thing we do,” the engineer said. “We have to.”
Aleksandra just smiled.
