“Take my Worf, please.”

Tomorrow is the Google Android announcement event. (thought it won’t actually be available until October). I’d love to go to cover it here, but I don’t know if I’m going to be able to. Android has been anticipated for quite some time now. I remember when Android levitra bestellen was first rumored, it was around the time that Google was bidding for a chunk of spectrum. The rumor-mongers swore up and down that this was going to mean the end of cell phone contracts. They thought Google was going to manufacture their own phone and have its own service provider and give away free ad-supported phones.

Now, the way it’s really going down is T-Mobile is going to be launching the HTC G1 (AKA Dream) exclusively on their network. Android is not a whole phone. It is specifically software. John C. Dvorak mentioned “Do we really need another platform?”. I don’t know. Do we? If this shapes up, it may very well finally give the boot to WM. Now with Palm having finally announced their long-overdue overhaul to their OS meaning that Palm devices may now have the choice between Palm OS II and Android. And since the platform is totally open, it’ll be flexible enough for manufacturers to start just throwing it at every device they’ve got.

Android is going to be completely open. The applications will not have to go through a verification process รก la Apple. It also seems that there will be an App Portal of some sort, thankfully passing on the Palm style of Sync-installation. Unfortunately though, Bluetooth is crippled. Just like on the iPhone, there is no media access. If you’re planning on using Bluetooth, you’re going to be making calls. And that’s about it. Whether or not this will change with furture handsets is undetermined.

The interface looks clean and easy to ingest. It looks like an un-cluttered Windows Mobile with a dash of Blackberry OS. And maybe just a bit of Symbian zest. I hope I can get to the event tomorrow and even better, get my hands on it. The device looks nice and sturdy and the full keyboard is definitely a huge plus. Android looks promising, but I guess we’ll know more tomorrow! Meanwhile, take a look at the Giz’s rundown of yes’s and no’s: LINK!
