One Victory Followed by Three More Legal Battles

On the front page, the Los Angeles Times reports on a federal decision that has officially snuffed out plans for the San Onofre toll road in California—a project that was widely unpopular in environmental and surfing communities; in the article Joel Reynolds explains the legal significance of the decision… John Walke marvels at an “EPA action that so utterly disdains global warming responsibility and disdains the law at the same time,” in the New York Times; the action John refers to bars officials weighing federal applications by utilities to build new coal-fired power plants from considering their greenhouse gas output… And coverage regarding NRDC’s opposition to Bush administration plans to lease wild lands in Utah continues in the Associated Press; in the article Robert Redford is quoted and Sharon Buccino warns oil and gas companies that the leases they purchase may be illegal…
