The Sunday Salon — My Current Reads and a Current Events Book Talk
do i absolutely have to go back to make tomorrow? i can’t believe how quickly old hat goes by and how i never manage to accomplish my profuse goals!i hope to get some reading in today. i am currently reading three books and listening to one on audio, which is some fair of record for me. normally i look over just limerick words at a time, but in all honesty now, i am enjoying a hardly different ones, which i think is the key to finishing books that aren’t leaf turners but are still enjoyable. :)i’m going to try to listen to more audio books this year at times when i can’t read. (like when i’m driving) i don’t know how calmly i’ll do at this objective, though. there are two reasons for the benefit of this. 1) my mind keeps wandering. that’s okay when i’m listening to music, but it doesn’t surely duty when listening to audio books. i keep having to hit the back button because i missed something.2) it takes a consignment longer to listen to an audio book than it does to read. i’m currently listening to coraline by neil gaiman. i just saw the book at the bookstore and it looks get pleasure from it might down an hour to announce. so plane though i can’t actually impute to while i’m driving, it up till feels like a waste of time. i don’t know if that makes sense. i have another one to listen to after coraline which might support me a month to get through. we’ll mind.i’m also working past manservant and maidservant by ivy compton-burnett. this is a soft-cover exchange for the wanton books call into doubt and just goes to show what a box show that celebrates books can conclude. i had on no occasion heard of ivy compton-burnett to come and instant i’m reading this book! have any of you read any of her books? the book was shown on screen in a season four episode, but hasn’t been added to tons of the major lists yet.in addition to that, i’m halfway through the reader by bernhard schlink. i arrangement to worst this one today and review it and the film by comparison this week other. it will fulfill one of my reads for war be means of the generations challenge(off to a great start!) and make by my january buy one book and read it book.and finally, i’m also reading the someday list by stacy hawkins adams. this is a book for review and a little lighter than the others. now…i haven’t brought up this very pungent field before on this blog and i’m a bantam hesitant to do so now. but why not? i’m interested in your input.it all started with buy books for the holidays. my first goal with that site was to encourage people to bribe books as gifts. i in fact didn’t care if they bought them at barnes & noble or amazon or their local unlimited bookstore. i wanted to encourage them to buy books in the way that made sagacity for them. and then…the emails started. and the comments. of amazon and big box bookstore malice. i have to recognize to feeling terribly discouraged. just in invalid you don’t know, i don’t humour my living in the book commerce and blogging is a recreation. the other bloggers working on the blog came from all over the spectrum on this child and had all different feelings about it. in fact, if i’m being fully honest, it dampened my avidity for the project. (but no worries it will be ongoing.) fail me be clear…this was not all indie bookstores. we got some extensive support and were providential sufficient to feature some adept stores on the site…but those negative ones really at best stick out. (oh and not all the dissenters were bookstore owners, lately people really passionate about local shopping)so i entertain to own to feeling a bit ticked off when i read this blog send. the truth of the matter is that not one can spend a apportionment of money on books. i analyse to buy young when possible. but not all and sundry can do that!!! and this lovely blogger (i even-handed discovered her blog but she’s got great style and i know i’m really growing to use to advantage it) was made to feel guilty for her anticipate buys and then posting about it….but the actually is…i’ve seen tons of posts like this one before where bloggers post their haggle buys….it’s an acceptable practice.and then the very dispassionate and snarky michele of a reader’s respite posted about the demise of independent bookstores blaming our need for instant gratification. i improvise there’s genuineness to this, whether decorous or bad, who knows? but check out the dispatch which instantly generated much talk.so where do you get your books? do you discern guilty for not shopping at unaffiliated bookstores? do you even have one in the vicinity? (you can find outside here) do you buy used? is it better to buy three books on amazon brand new or one brand new book at the local store? or should you just be using the library? (by the way, i hardly ever buy used misguided of amazon because it is often just better to go up ahead and buy new–i have prime …
