Worker dies in incident at Charlotte plant

a worker was killed and another injured in some type of industrial incident this morning at a conceal in northwest charlotte.

eric morrison, a spokesman for medic, the county’s emergency medical service power, said crews were called about 5:30 a.m. to a plant at 6601 lakeview access, not far from the northlake mall extent. that is the address of gerdau ameristeel.

charlotte fire capt. strip of brisley called it “a very tragic incident at a workplace.”

brisley said firefighters and medic responded to the scene and found one worker dead and another injured. brisley said firefighters treated the second worker destined for injuries that are not observation to be life-threatening.

morrison described the ingenious call in the interest help as saying a worker had been trapped.

gerdau ameristeel is a metal manufacturing company that produces specialized steel-based products.

officials from the n.c. department of labor and from gerdau ameristeel are joining police, firefighters and medic at the scene, launching an investigation.
