Saline County watches the count of ballots

AT THE COURTHOUSE …
We won’t attempt to keep up-to-date on numbers, just people and happenings. Full coverage in the Daily Register and Daily Journal on Wednesday.SOON >>> HERE’S ERRRRIC………..
There is not much happening so far. The polls closed about 10 minutes ago. County Clerk Willie McClusky and observers from the Democrat and Republican parties are downstairs in the Elections Office counting early and absentee votes.
Turnout around the county appears to be high, McClusky said. He said there were vehicles all around Harrisburg High School last time he drove by that location.
Circuit Clerk Randy Nyberg joked The Associated Press is projecting him the winner of his race, but he is waiting for returns before breaking open the party favors.
Nyberg is unopposed in his bid for another term.
County Board candidates Karla Carrigan, John Stanley and Danny Gibbs have joined the crowd at the Courthouse. No results have been posted, but people are trying to read tea leaves based upon turnout and what is being discussed.
Most county races remain too close to call. The judicial race between Todd Lambert and Walden Morris appears to be a nail-biter, with Lambert holding a small lead with just four precincts reporting.
Angie Stacey, a deputy county clerk, just said all precincts are at the Courthouse. Election judges are now waiting for their precincts to be called and their votes to be tallied.
In the County Board race, Joe Jackson, Jay Williams and Danny Gibbs are doing well in the early tallies. All three are incumbents. Republican Roger Craig and Democrat Bruce Allen are also doing well. Six county board candidates will be elected tonight.
Mike Richey, an election-watcher from way back, thinks there may have been an exit poller at Harrisburg High School, although the person did not ask him any questions.
People are guessing the judicial race between Morris and Lambert will come down to the wire, with possibly 100 votes or less seperating the men.
So far, not much has surprised Republican Chairman Billly Bradley.
“About what we expected. Everybody is working hard. But it comes down to early and absentee votes every time. It is just something the Republicans have to work on,” Bradley said.
