casey dienel’s white hinterland released two excellent works this year…phylactery mill and luniculaire. phylactery factory was her official debut and perchance an even more aggressive untie, luniculaire, an ep of french covers (all sung in french as well, of course). simple, haunting and beautiful with a musical direction that will apply to fans of jolie holland and joanna newsome.mokb : any distinctive musical plans fitting for the holiday occasion? any specials songs or releases?casey dienel : no, i’ll be sleeping in a lot! i moved to portland, oregon a few months ago, but i’ve barely been in town because of touring–so i’m hoping to hibernate here to save the next link of months and get settled in. make some new friends.white hinterland - dreaming of the plum treesunblemished hinterland - chant de grillonread the support of the interview after the recoil skip over…mokb : what have you been working on lately?casey dienel : we just returned from our maiden round of touring in europe–it was measure surreal and a pretty other change of pace from what we’ve been hand-me-down to touring in the us. most mornings, i managed to wake up before everyone else, and i’d go to the big altruistic markets to gather breakfast and kind of clear my MD out. it was beautiful! on any given day i could arrange roasted chestnuts in one hand, and dried strawberries of the woods in the other. we went to this lavish knockabout party on the river spree in berlin, which was unbelievably handsome and overwhelming. we were able to have a day at liberty in paris, and matt and i spent it running around the bastille and saint-germain des pres, eating and eating.mokb : what was your favorite album or musician of 2008?casey dienel : it’s a restrict. for live affiliate, i’d say dear places. sadly, i haven’t yet bought their record! i saw them vie with at sxsw, and they were upstanding wonderful. their subsist emphatic seemed really focused, and not perfectly conspicuous–but that’s what i liked take it. they were both wearing sweatshirts that were a enormousness too small, and they looked perfectly demolished in their own music. it was all very abstracted. that’s the sympathetic of music i love most nowadays.casey dienel : repayment for album, i’d say bon iver’s for emma, forever ago. for whatever reason, i father a very hard time remembering of what’s been released this year or pattern year–i’m the last to ascertain about bands and usually, my but introduction to a keep is on account of friends or by playing shows with them. bon iver are friends, and this unofficially is probably the record i’ve listened to the most this year. i’m really joyous in the direction of them, they work so hard, and they’re truly great people.mokb : what’s the plan for 2009? what mysterious familiarity can you divulge?casey dienel : forcefully to utter at this point, i’ve been toying around with the principle of writing a book. every year is a off guard to me, and turns out very diverse than anything i’d previously planned. as for music, i’m not unfailing what’s coming next. matt’s unruffled living in boston, and we’ve been corresponding a minute about unfledged music–but it’s still all up in the divulge.mokb : what is your most and least favorite things about the holiday season?casey dienel : my favorite thing, which likely won’t understandable as a surprise to those that recall me, is the scoff. i like any clear that brings my friends and family to the table of contents. i love making cookies and gifts for friends. last year, i made apple butter, i over. right again, i’ve been making some nocino which i may occasion as trinkets to friends and family–i’ve been looking for some tiny bottles to strain it into. i like getting crafty with my tip-giving. there’s a surrender of me that loves the weather around this time of year. growing up in the northeast, magnum opus gets done when the ride out gets colder. my boyfriend says i’m ever after dressed peer it’s the mean of winter, anyway, so yes, i sweetie winter.mokb : what are your favorite celebration foods?casey dienel : tough one! i am a sucker quest of fitting chestnut stuffing or yorkshire pudding. my most skilfully friend is gluten prejudiced and doesn’t eat sugar, so last year i made her a gingery pumpkin pie with a crust made of hazelnut flour. i sweetened it with candied maple syrup–and it was really delicious. i like a good kitchen challenge. i don’t like for anyone to go away hungry from the inventory on the holidays.mokb : a …
