model week i added a census to this site and asked where you get the majority of your books. the results really surprised me. as of this moment amazon has a clear innocent lead with 55% of the votes. that means that half of us go for the majority of our books from amazon as contrasted with of the local christian bookstore or one of the sundry online christian retailers. there viagra kaufen are little short of three times more votes for online retailers as brick-and-mortar retailers. while i’ll grant that this count is far from scientific, it does show a clear trend (and one that makes sense of the fact that so many christian bookstores are closing their doors).
In the comments, of which there are currently 89, many people indicated that Christians should do better than Amazon–that we should go out of our way to support Christian-owned businesses (see, for example, this one or this one).

I thought this was worth thinking and talking about and would love to hear some feedback. Do you think Christians should go out of their way to support Christian-owned businesses? Is this a moral imperative? Or should Christians feel free to shop wherever is most convenient or wherever offers the best prices? What is our obligation to other Christians in such matters?

While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a rock ballad written by George Harrison for The Beatles on their double album The Beatles (also known as The White Album). George Harrison originally performed the song with a solo acoustic guitar and an organ; a demo version, longer than the officially released version, can be heard on the Anthology 3 album and in reworked form on the Love album. Eric Clapton, who was a good friend of George’s, played lead guitar on the album version of the song with a Gibson Les Paul guitar.Composition and recording · Credits · Concert for George · Cover versions

Underdogs: The dogs below the title (Part 1)

I love me some doggies.
In advance of a story I’ve written about some of my favorite movie dogs whose proper names (if they have them) do not appear in or above the titles of the films in which they are featured, I present a wee quiz. No, these dogs are not marquee names (except, maybe, for the brilliant wire-haired fox terrier at right who co-starred with Nick and Nora and Archie Leach). Some are bit players, but all make indelible marks on the screen. You know what they say: There are no small dogs, just… something like that.
Several of the following dogs I was unable to mention in the story, which I will link to when it goes live. In the meantime, can you identify the pooches pictured after the jump?

A conversation about steak tartare

i got together recently with particular of the women i work with, which was really agreeably since we don’t often get to look to each other out of uniform. of process we stared gossiping about the goings-on around the place and complaining with respect to co-workers. one of my friends mentioned that undivided of the cialis levitra kaufen cooks had the audacity to act as a steak tartare with a raw egg rather than a poached one. i thought about this for a minute and told her that in all fairness, i was pretty steady that’s how the dish was traditionally served but i’d look it up when i got core. i got out my copy of larousse-gastronomique the next morning, and it turns out that i was right. though originally ‘tartare’ referred to dishes that were covered in bread crumbs, grilled or broiled, and served with a strong sauce, somewhere along the way the term was applied reasonable to the sauce and to the unreserved steak dish. in fact, steak tartare probably got its delegate from the italian word tartari, which means raw steak. larousse-gastronomique states that minced onions, shallots, capers, and chives are served sprinked around the steak, though there are many ways to serve it. horse is also an acceptable meat to turn to account, in place of filet of beef. the myths surrounding the origin of steak tartare credit the marauding huns, who rode ’round with crux lower than drunk their saddles to tenderize it who would then eat it raw. here’s a recipe from what geeks snack, who incorrectly claim that you can’t get steak tartare in the us. sadly, it’s most likely served at least partially cooked with a poached egg, to a certain extent than totally raw as it was intended.permalink email this comments

WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Bush Saturday said officials will ensure gasoline stations don’t gouge customers after Hurricane Ike, but with some prices near $5 a gallon, some consumers were not so sure.

Regular gasoline was at $4.99 per gallon Saturday in Knoxville, Tennessee, iReporter Sean Kennedy says.

Dozens of iReport.com users complained of rising gasoline prices Friday and Saturday. Sean Kennedy, of Knoxville, Tennessee, took a photo of a Knoxville station displaying a $4.99 per gallon price for regular gasoline on Saturday.
The previous day, he said, he had bought regular gas at the station for $3.59 a gallon.
"I know the hurricane is causing a spike, but … [nearly] $1.50 in 24 hours?" Kennedy said.
Other stations in the area, he said, were offering prices at or near $4.99 on Saturday. iReport.com: Send photos of gas prices
"I was just appalled to see it go up that much in 24 hours," he said.
In Cumming, Georgia, iReporter Jeffrey Brock took a picture of a gas station sign with a $5.20-per-gallon price on Friday, the day before Ike slammed the Texas Gulf Coast.
"Most other stations in the area are not charging this much," he wrote to iReport.com.
Gas prices rose across the country amid fears the storm would disrupt fuel supplies. The region hit by Ike is home to about 25 percent of U.S. oil refining capacity, a large percentage of which shut down ahead of the storm.

Sarah Palin, Nightmare Of The Centrist Male McCain Fan With Actual Brains* [Angry White Men]
Former Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee gave a speech today and got a lot of laughs when he said this about Sarah Palin: “People were coming into my office, phone calls were flooding in, e-mails were coming in, ‘I just sent money to Obama, I couldn’t sleep last night’ ? from the left. To see this cocky wacko up there.” Now, Chafee was never that convincing a Republican, but here’s the thing: neither, for the vast majority of his career anyway, was John McCain. And if Palin energizes the Republican base, she’s sure as hell alienating a huge portion of the John McCain base. Let’s call them “Angry White Men With Working Brain Cells.”* My brother is one; he used to have a mild hardon for McCain; this morning I got an email from him about some Palin nightmare he had last night followed an hour later by an email from the Obama campaign informing me he’d donated a hundred bucks. He is part of the niche that gets riled up not over the idea bombing Iran, or even dumfuckedly joking about bombing Iran, but becomes suddenly borderline rabid over stories like this (as told to Bob Woodward.)
Houston news stations
“I think we need to do something to get engaged with these guys,” Fallon said. Iraq shared a 900-mile border with Iran, and he needed guidance and a strategy for dealing with the Iranians. “Well,” Bush said, “these are assholes.” Fallon was stunned. Declaring them “assholes” was not a strategy. Lots of words and ideas were thrown around at the meeting, especially about the Iranian leaders. They were bad, evil, out of touch with their people. But no one offered a real approach. No one wanted to touch diplomatic engagement.

Liberals self-servingly think of themselves as the masters of the “Working Brain Cells” niche. We buy into the myth that Daily Show watchers are so much better-informed than everyone else. This is deeply self-destructive. Democrats are on average no better-informed than Republicans, and the political group with the highest percentage of “highly-informed” voters is registered independents. In addition, almost twice as many men than women fall into the “highly informed” camp, and men have long leaned Republican. And when liberals cave to defeatism in the face of all the shameless falsehoods and mendacious lowest-common-denominator Roviananities, they risk pissing off the very niche of McCain-friendly independents who so badly want to help them right now.

All of which is why it’s so counterproductive to worry about shit like Obama’s “lipstick on a pig” gaffe. It was not absolutely not a gaffe! In fact, I think it was intentional — not intentional in the acheter cialis sense that Barack Obama intended for the right to idiotically mix up their antecedents when anyone who passed fourth grade grammar (and the AWMWWBC do respect grammar!) (also: phonics) could tell you he was NOT CALLING HER PIG — but intentional in the sense that it was a clever bit of worldplay capitalizing on the insipid “lipstick meme.” And in that sense, it was funny. An AWMWWBC would certainly think so, I think; he’s sure as hell not going to be offended by anything other than the disingenuous PC fakeness of the ensuing controversy, though I’d bet right now he’s stopped reading stories on the matter. He’s not answering calls from Zogby either. He’s too angry! Which is funny, because the AWMWWBC always thought Barack Obama was pretty impressive (if not quite ready) he probably found Michelle a bit on the angry side, probably just because she reminds him of some girl who told him off once and was right. (There is also the matter of the AWMWWBC worshiping the Hitch, who for whatever reason detests Michelle.) But whatever, all that was before the AWMWWBC got an earful of Sarah Palin’s pitbull. Suddenly Michelle Obama is looking pretty sweet.

That said, any trip where you meet Edward O’Connor, John Lilly, Mike Shaver achat cialis, and Ryan Tomayko for the first time - and, as a bonus, randomly run into Joshua Schachter - is nothing less than worthwhile.
This week’s busy, exhausting trip to Seattle has been cancelled, however, meaning that I’ll be around until late Thursday, at which point I’m headed to Chicago and thence to Michigan for a wedding event in Crystal Lake. Camp Crystal Lake, if you prefer. Following that, I’ll be in Denver, Vegas, and Denver in that order. Yes, you read that right.

After all of that, I’ll be returning to Maine. A few of you have inquired as to the timing of my transition back to my erstwhile home in Denver: I refer you instead to the schedule here, as it’s more accurate than anything I can provide.
