LeBron loses triple-double

Years from now, anyone who attended, or watched, Wednesday’s performance by LeBron James and recalls how they “saw him get a triple-double” won’t be quite right.

The NBA announced Friday that per its review of the game and its statistics, LBJ was credited with a rebound in the final minute (his ninth) that actually should have been credited to Ben Wallace.

The reason is a recent rules change that credits someone who tips a rebound to a teammate (in this case, Wallace tipped it to LeBron) with the board. The guy who actually grabs it doesn’t get the credit, which can be somewhat of a gray area.

In this case, to this naked eye, the rebound seemed obviously James’.

But some You Tube-type, the day after, posted a grainy video of the play questioning the Knicks’ statistical team’s call and the NBA says it regularly reviews video of its games (we wonder, though, about Thunder vs. Clippers) to look for such things.

So LeBron ends up with 52 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds (the last, which he thought was his 10th, came just before the final buzzer.

And all the Oliver Stones out there can start coming up with theories about the NBA wanting LBJ to do what he did to hype its game in a week that needs no hyping (Lakers over Celtics and Lakers-Cavs on Sunday, besides what’s going on at the Garden).

Gee, that should make the Knicks feel so much better.
