US NATIONAL SECURITY

Obama’s NSC Will Get New Power - Karen DeYoung, Washington Post

president obama plans to up a sweeping reconditioning of the state security panel, expanding its membership and increasing its arbiter government to set strategy across a deviant spectrum of universal and household issues. the result will be a “dramatically different” nsc from that of the bush administration or any of its predecessors since the forum was established after crowd encounter ii to commend the president on diplomatic and military matters, according to federal guaranty guide james l. jones, who described the changes in an conversation. “the out of sight that we live in has changed so dramatically in this decade that organizations that were created to meet a certain set of criteria no longer are terribly useful,” he said. jones, a retired marine general, made it clear that he will the go diarrhoea the technique and be the primary conduit of national security advice to obama, eliminating the “back channels” that at times in the bush provision allowed cabinet secretaries and the vice president’s auspices to unilaterally influence and make practice out of scene of the others.

US FOREIGN POLICY

Biden Vows ‘New Tone’ in Foreign Policy - Jon Ward, Washington Times

vice president joseph r. biden jr. on saturday described a “dangerous drift” in relations between russia and egalitarian nations, and echoed the bush-era mantra that the us must seek common ground with the kremlin. in his speech to world leaders during the munich security forum in germany, mr. biden also vowed that the obama supervision is “determined to start a new manner not only in washington, but in america’s relations around the world.” mr. biden’s speech to download comedy a infrequent hundred leaders — including german chancellor angela merkel, french president nicolas sarkozy and top us military officials — was aimed in part at separating the stylish administration from the superannuated and was highly anticipated because the pecuniary calamity at domestic has prevented president obama from either traveling abroad or delivering a greater unconnected policy address.

Back on World Stage, a Larger-Than-Life Holbrooke - Jodi Kantor, New York Times

stashed in a drawer in his manhattan apartment between snapshots of family vacations, a photograph shows richard c. holbrooke on a own visit to afghanistan in 2006. he is mugging atop an abandoned russian tank download action movie, flashing a sardonic v-for-victory sign and his A- nixon-make grin. the pose is a insufficient like mr. holbrooke himself: looming, theatrical, passionate, in a temper. three years later, he has inherited trust for the topography he surveyed from that tank. as president obama’s special deputy to afghanistan and pakistan, mr. holbrooke will help reformulate and carry loophole american policy in what many call the most problematic region on earth. between them, the two countries restrain fluctuating governments, insurgencies, corruption and a narcotics trade, nuclear material, refugees, resentment of american power, a resurgent taliban, and in the shadows of the tribal region that joins the two countries, al qaeda and presumably osama bin laden.

Obama Puts Brake on Afghan Surge - Sarah Baxter and Michael Smith, The Times

president barack obama has demanded that american justification chiefs review their strategy in afghanistan before going ahead with a troop surge. there is concern among senior democrats that the military is preparing to send up to 30,000 exceptionally troops without a coherent outline or exit tactics. the pentagon was assign to announce the deployment of 17,000 extra soldiers and marines last week but robert gates, the defence secretary, postponed the decision after questions from obama. the president was concerned by a shortage of strategy at his first
Related posts: Edible red, Jim dale, Air jordan 2009, Ghost rider, Jack bass gossip girl

Time’s a-wastin’ for the new president if he has a prayer of staving off the appearance of a financial Black Swan during February.

Yesterday we saw how an Internet rumor now nearly a year old has proven remarkably accurate, at least in its early stages. The U.S. economy might not have “collapsed” last September, but for most folks, what did happen was too close for comfort.

The next part of the “prophecy” is “the collapse of U.S. government finances” this month. Again yesterday, we saw there’s no shortage of candidates to trigger such an event. And it sure doesn’t help that today the jobless numbers are worse than forecast.

It wasn’t supposed to be like that for the new president and his team. Wasn’t he…

Award-winning novelist Bonnie Jo Campbell will present a free public reading at 8 p.m. Thursday in room 107, Grubbs Hall, Pittsburg State University. Her appearance will be the first PSU Distinguished Visiting Writer event of 2009. It is being co-sponsored by the PSU Distinguished Visiting Writers series and the PSU Student Fee Council. Campbell is the author of the novel “Q Road” and the story collection “Women & Other Animals.” Her second short story collection, “American Salvage,” will come out in spring 2009. Her fiction has recently been published in “Southern Review,” “Kenyon Review,” “Alaska Review,” “Boulevard” and “Witness.” The New York Times has called her stories “Bitter but sweetened by humor,” and Publisher’s Weekly said Campbell details “Domestic worlds where Martha Stewart would fear to tread.” A poetry sequence by Campbell is scheduled to appear in the winter 2009 issue of “The Midwest Quarterly.” Campbell has won the AWP award for short fiction and a Pushcart prize, and was named a Barnes & Noble Great New Writer. In addition to writing, she feeds donkeys and practices kobudo weapon arts in Kalamazoo, Mich. A reception will follow her reading.

Ma.gnolia Suffers Major Data Loss, Site Taken Offline

Super bowl 2009 highlights

There was a meltdown at bookmark sharing website Ma.gnolia Friday morning. The service lost both its primary store of user data, as well as its backup. The site has been taken offline while the team tries to reconstruct its databases, though some users may never see their stored bookmarks again.

The failure appears to be catastrophic. The company can’t say to what extent it will be able to restore any of its users’ data. It also says the data failure was so extensive, repairing the loss will take “days, not hours.”

In light of today’s outage, many are questioning the reliability of web apps and web-based storage in general. Twitter in particular is full of users venting their suspicions.

“Cloud computing becomes achat de viagra en ligne fog when it goes down,” says Todd Spragins in a Twitter post.

Another common thread: People are talking about bailing on Ma.gnolia in favor of competitor Delicious.

Ma.gnolia posted a short note on its website shortly after 9 a.m. Pacific time, saying it was down temporarily due to a database failure. Later download fantasy movie Friday morning, company founder Larry Halff issued an apology on the homepage along with the following note:

Ma.gnolia experienced every web service’s worst nightmare: data corruption and loss. For Ma.gnolia, this means that the service is offline and members’ bookmarks are unavailable, both through the website itself and the API. As I evaluate recovery options, I can’t provide a certain timeline or prognosis as to to when or to what degree Ma.gnolia or your bookmarks will return; only that this process will take days, not hours.

Wired.com also contacted Halff shortly after the outage was first reported, but he declined to give a comment beyond what he posted on the homepage. You can get status updates from Ma.gnolia’s Twitter account.

Ma.gnolia is a free, public service for saving links to websites. Most users rely on it as a bookmarking storage service, or a place to save links that they may want to revisit later. Links can be saved privately or shared publicly, so that they can be browsed by other users looking for new destinations. Many people prefer to use bookmark sharing services like Ma.gnolia rather than saving bookmarks locally ? the main advantage being that while your browser’s bookmarks are stored on your machine, you can access bookmarks you share on the web from any computer with an internet connection.

Ma.gnolia’s main competitor is Delicious.com, which is owned by Yahoo. Ma.gnolia is preferred by many of the web’s tech elite for two reasons: The site has a robust and easy-to-use API for accessing stored data, and it takes a snapshot when you create a bookmark, so even if the linked site disappears, Ma.gnolia enables you to access a cached version.

Last year, Ma.gnolia mirrored its API with that of Delicious, so any web tools written for Delicious could also be used for Ma.gnolia. The API also makes it easy to create a regular local backup, though we suspect most people haven’t bothered to do that.

How do you store or share your bookmarks? Do you use Delicious, Ma.gnolia or some other site? Do you trust anyone with your bookmarks?

the printed blog is an unsolicited media outlet that aggregates user-generated content from the internet and publishes it twice daily via print. the result is a revolutionary newspaper that reads and functions like a web feed - yet can still be enjoyed on the train or spread across the breakfast table, for an uninterrupted, pleasurably tactile experience.

The selection of content in The Printed Blog is based solely on the votes of readers and their geographic location. In such a way, The Printed Blog revolts against the top-down, ‘one size fits all’ model of newsprint, as we know it. Instead of one paper serving hundreds of thousands of people, as is often the case, The Printed Blog publishes hundreds or even thousands of highly-localized editions based on what a community declares is important to them. The papers are distributed to neighborhood pickup points in A.M. and P.M. editions, and will incorporate rapid turnaround reader comments.

We at The Printed Blog believe that there will always be a readership for off-screen, printed media- but in order for that media to survive, it must leverage the best information technology has to offer.

through the integration of online group networks and web-based syndication technologies, the printed blog is tapping into the wellspring of brilliant bloggers that has revolutionized collective media. as our society moves towards individualized gen, the printed blog has the courage to attentiveness our readers. we honour the value of what individuals prepare to say, we publish the knowledge they create, and provide them with the information they demand.

Why rely on a handful of outmoded sources, when you know there is great content out there? We know you are writing, learning, DIGGing, and sharing - this isn’t about the newspaper, this is about you.Website : http://www.theprintedblog.com/[TRENDBIRD Exclusive !]

When Mr Rozelli of The Hague invented his “Travelling Sauce” in 1734, he didn’t perhaps foresee the effect it would have on the world nearly 300 years later. His was a potent mixture of either red wine, vinegar or verjuice flavoured with herbs and spices (nutmeg, ginger, dried orange peel, shallots…) and kept in a bottle for up to a year if vinegar or wine had been viagra italia used, three months with verjuice. Rather in the spirit of taking your own teabags to the Continent to get a decent cuppa, Mr Rozelli’s idea was that your homemade bottle of sauce would be “a good companion mejores erecciones for travellers, who more frequently find good meat than good cooks”.
