Glasvegas Coming To Canada

Glasvegas are certainly making a splash on the other side of the pond, and they’re planning to invade North America in 2009.The Glasgow, Scotland quartet’s self-titled debut, which was released on Sept. 8 in Europe, will finally get a North American physical release on Jan. 6 via Columbia Records. You can preview three tracks from the album on their MySpace page. The album, which was produced by frontman James Allan and Rich Costey (Muse, Interpol), debuted at #2 on the U.K. sales chart. Metallica, who claimed the top stop that week with Death Magnetic, bumped up their release date to Friday, Sept. 12 out of fear that Glasvegas would beat them in the race for the coveted #1 spot.Kings Of Leon bassist Jared Followill recently declared his love for Glasvegas to the Glasgow Daily Record newspaper, despite not understanding a damn thing they say.”I can’t always understand what James is saying, but the music behind it makes it relevant. Somehow it makes sense.” NME can’t shut up about them either. While she’s no Alice Glass, the British mag named drummer Caroline McKay the 10th coolest person of 2008.Prior to Glasvegas‘ release, U.K. fans can check out the band’s A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss) Christmas EP that’s due out there on Dec. 1.But guitarist Rab Allan doesn’t want it to take the coveted top spot on the chart over the holiday, a position that attracts feverish betting by people every year.

“I don’t expect it, I don’t want it,” he told the Glasgow Daily Record. “I want The X Factor to win. Simon Cowell rules.

“Do what I did and put money on everybody else. Then you’ll get money back.”

The band recorded the EP last month in Transylvania.

“[James Allan] was always curious to see what Transylvania was like,” said Allan. “It was cold and beautiful.

“Parts of it were quite picturesque… all the Hansel and Gretel houses.”Glasvegas have a slew of sold-out gigs coming up in the U.K., and a North American tour slated for January, with dates already sold-out in New York and Los Angeles. You can see what all the hype is about when Glasvegas play Vancouver’s Richard’s On Richards on Jan. 11.Here are the tracks on Glasvegas:”Flowers And Football Tops” “Geraldine” “It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry” “Lonesome Swan” “Go Square Go” “Polmont On My Mind” “Daddy’s Gone” “Stabbed” “S.A.D. Light” “Ice Cream Van”Here are the tracks on A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss):”Careful What You Wish For” “Fuck You, It’s Over” “Cruel Moon” “Please Come Back Home” “A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss)” “Silent Night (Noapte De Vis)”
