Ron Paul: US must repudiate philosophy of “government intervention, socialism, paper money and welfare dependancy” to get back on its feet
Milking the prostate
Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul joins us from his desk to talk about the the Senate version of the “stimulus download crime movie package” (really just a plain ol’ pork-filled spending package), “born-again budget conservatives” in the Republican Party, and how the US can get back on its feet:
UPDATE: The top story on CNN.com “GOP senators ‘caved in’ on stimulus, Paul says”:
Paul, a Republican representative from Texas who sought the GOP nomination for president, said that although some people call Obama’s plan to jumpstart the economy a “stimulus package,” he thinks it is a “pure spending package.”
The message came on a video posted on YouTube download comedy movie.
Paul praised his fellow House Republicans for unanimously voting against the plan but expressed disappointment that three Senate Republicans “caved in and went with the Democrats.”
He didn’t mention the GOP senators by name but was referring to Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, both of Maine, and Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.
In the video, Paul said he wondered whether Republican opposition to the spending is too little, too late.
“It is like they’re born-again budget conservatives,” Paul said. “Where were we in the past eight years, when we could have done something? And you see our last eight years that has set this situation up. So we can’t blame the Democrats for the conditions we have.
“We have to blame both parties and presidents of the last several decades to have generated this huge government.”

The Sad Life of a White House Reporter [Journalismism]

within the self-involved newsrooms of america, there is much handwringing as a remainder even-shrinking washington bureaus. why? they’d just as soon quit, from what we gather. today’s white theatre pool report from ace reporter paper money theobald:
From: Theobald, William Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2009 4:29 PM To: Finkenbinder, Benjamin N. Cc: Hogan, Katherine J. Subject: Pool Report No. 1
Here it is. Let me know you received it. Thanks.
Bill
Even though President Obama’s departure was open press, your pool feels obligated to write something — if only to justify his day spent sitting in the White House briefing room.
Marine One touched down on the South Lawn of the White House at 3:42 p.m. About 10 minutes later, First Lady Michelle Obama emerged first with Sasha and another young girl, apparently a friend. President Obama followed, saying “nice day” to the gathered media as he walked to the helicopter. Malia Obama and Marian Robinson, the FGOTUS, followed and they climbed aboard Marine One. President Obama was the last to enter, saluted the Marine at the foot of the steps, and turned and waved as he entered the door. Wheels up at 3:55 p.m. on the first family’s first trip to Camp David.
That’s a lid. .

who is ben finkenbinder, the guy to whom theobald emailed his report? his editor, perhaps? no. finkenbinder (left) is one of the impossibly young former obama campaign staffers working in the snow-white house request office. because access to the president Comprar Viagra is strictly limited, reporters take turns tailing the president in the hopes that something happens on their watch. the assigned reporter writes a “pool report,” which is distributed to everyone participating in the system. and because the washington press corps is hopelessly pliant and disorganized, reporters email their pool reports to the white board impel office for distribution.
Surely a system which forces the likes of Theobald, an award-winning Compre cialis en España journalist previously best known for exposing the vicious pet-killers of Indianapolis, to email in reports on the president’s whereabouts to some kid barely out of college is rotten to its core.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — A bipartisan group of senators said Thursday they were going "line by line" through the economic stimulus bill as they try to reach a compromise on an amendment to cut some spending from the package.

Sen. Susan Collins says senators worked late into the night on the stimulus bill.

Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Indiana, said there is a "backbone" to a deal, but the details were being worked out between the 12 Democrats and five Republicans at the meeting.
"It’s been a painstaking, very thorough, very comprehensive process," said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine.
Republicans have objected to some provisions in the bill that they say have nothing to do with stimulating the economy.
The president stepped up his personal lobbying for the bill this week, holding a series of one-on-one meetings in the Oval Office on Wednesday with key senators still on the fence.
Obama met separately with Collins, Democrat Ben Nelson and Republican Olympia Snowe.
Collins said she went through some specific programs with the president to see which ones he would be willing to cut.
Collins said she was originally in favor of a bill that would have cost about $650 billion, but after meeting with Obama, she was convinced of the need for a proposal that would be in the neighborhood of $800 billion.
"But I will tell you, particularly on my side of the aisle, there is a vigorous debate over what the size of the package should be," she said.
"We don’t want a package that is too small because that will end up just wasting money. On the other hand, we’re very leery of having an enormous package that would not be necessary and would just boost the federal deficit," Collins said as Nelson nodded in agreement.
Collins took the information she got from the president and worked late into the night with Nelson to figure out what they can do to scrub unnecessary spending from the bill in a way that the White House and Democratic leaders will accept.

"Whatever you have in there … you want to be as robust a stimulus as you can have it so that it’s not just a spending bill," Nelson said.
The senators’ aides were asked to leave the meeting while the lawmakers worked, and wound up standing in the hallway.
"We felt that staff could be helpful, but in this situation, that we needed to work with one another to put together something that we as members really can feel comfortable with, and use staff as a resource rather than the traditional way," Nelson said.
In the House, the leaders of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of conservative Democrats, sent a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi asking that some of the provisions Republicans have objected to be removed from the House bill and be tak

Original Sin: ‘Beverly Hills, 90210′

beverly hills flop

“beverly hills, 90210″

by david bianculli blue ribbon off: the number in the title of fox’s new drama series, “beverly hills 90210,” isn’t the date. it’s the zip structure — and it’s the on the contrary zip this flashy but unsatisfying show has to offer.
Its premise is painfully easy to describe: High-school kids move with their parents from quiet Minnesota to glitzy Beverly Hills, where the fast times at Beverly Hills High School tempt and confuse them.
Pants
Brandon (Jason Priestly) and Brenda (Shannen Doherty), the transplanted siblings, fall in with interesting crowds. When Brandon charms a rich girl by passively listening to her talk, she sends him roses and has them delivered to his Spanish class. When Brenda learns the ways of movie-star makeup and Rodeo Drive wardrobe, she becomes friends with one of the prettiest girls in school, and eventually lies about her age to become romantically involved with a much older man.
Both the brother and sister are tested in the series pilot — not with a pop quiz or science exam, but in the ways of made-for-TV morality. Does he allow his peers to spread a false sexual conquest story about him and the rich girl, or does he find a way to squelch the rumor? Does she continue to deceive her older suitor, or does she, too, find a way to tell the truth?

(CNN/In Session) — A young mother of two who had been living with a former police officer suspected in his wife’s disappearance said Monday that she moved out when she came to her senses.

Christina Raines has moved out of Drew Peterson’s house and denies they were ever engaged.

"We were never engaged," said Christina Raines, 24, during an appearance Monday on "The Early Show" on CBS.
Raines told CBS that she decided not to go along with Drew Peterson’s "staged" engagement, which she said was a publicity "stunt" so the former police sergeant from Bolingbrook, Illinois, "could be in the media."
During the CBS appearance, and later during one with In Session’s Lisa Bloom, Raines said that she did not feel comfortable answering questions about Stacy Peterson, whose October 28, 2007, disappearance has received national attention. Photos of Stacy Peterson are still on display inside the Peterson house, she said.
Drew Peterson is considered a suspect in the disappearance of his 23-year-old wife. Police are treating the case as a homicide.

Raines told In Session she first met Drew and Stacy Peterson at a laundromat when she was a teenager. She said she later met Peterson again in a bar.

"He was a charmer. And he really romanced me," she said. She added that he was "a good father" and was kind to her and her children. "He took me out to dinner, was there for me, like hand and foot," she told In Session.
Raines said she was aware of the suspicions and news reports about Stacy Peterson’s disappearance. "But at the time I didn’t believe any of it," she said. "I was just so confused and I believed him. I believed everything that he told me," Raines told In Session.
"At first I believed that she could have left. I believed him. I believed everything he said," she added. But, she said, doubts began to gnaw at her.
"Seeing her pictures in the house, seeing how she was with her kids, and all her pictures, I kind of think, ‘Wait, just wait a minute.’ How could she leave them?"

Steele’s a (Symbolic) Victory for Republicans
The race for RNC chair didn’t garner nearly as much attention as the DNC’s election of Howard Dean in 2005, nor did it tell us anything that profound about the GOP. All of the candidates praised Ronald Reagan and rhetorically distanced themselves from George W. Bush while pledging allegiance levitra online bestellen to the party’s increasingly conservative base.

That said, the election of former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele was good news for Republicans–and not just because he’s the first African-American leader of a party that badly needs a new public face.
If any rift emerged during the RNC race, it was geographic rather than ideological. Republicans who weren’t from the South resented how their parts of the country increasingly didn’t exist to the leadership of the party. “The fact is that Republicans are becoming dinosaurs in too many states, especially north of the Mason-Dixon line,” wrote Republican strategist John Feehery, a top aide to former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. “We have become a regional party, and the bad news is that we are even losing ground in that one region.”
