painting exhibit at northshore unitarian universalist

Reading-based painter Lynne Cassinari is exhibiting her work in the Northshore Unitartian Universalist Church meeting room in Danvers through May 8.

The show, titled Silent Meaning, range from landscape images painted “en plein air” to still life arrangements painted in studio. Cassinari’s artwork marries realism with the abstract qualities of the medium such as color washes and bold brush strokes.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Cassinari taught photography, printmaking and other art courses at Gloucester High School and was coordinator of the art department for four years. She is a member of the Danvers and Reading Art Associations.

bridge gallery ‘symphony of colors’

Bridge Gallery, 113 Merrimac St., Newburyport, presents “A Symphony of Colors” by award-winning artist Danielle Gauthier McCarthy through May 31. A reception honoring the artist will be held Friday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m., in conjunction with Newburyport’s Invitation Night. 

The window exhibition for May is titled ”Plum Island Revisited” and consists of paintings of local beach scenes. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.

Joanne Neary Morris will display a collection of photographs titled “Vizual-Elation” at Absolute Hair Salon, 44 Pleasant St., Newburyport, through Saturday, May 24. A reception open to the public will be held Friday, May 9, 6-8 p.m.

dyment offer at coombs hills gallery

Cheryl Dyment, one of the founding members of “The Women in the Wild” painting group, will exhibit her latest body of work in a show titled “On the Loose” at the Newburyport Art Association in the Laura Coombs Hills Gallery through May 17.

From the time she started painting, Dyment longed to paint in a large format. Just over two years ago, she and her husband moved into an antique farmhouse, and converted the second floor of the barn into her studio, “Valley Farm Studio.” At this show, the viewer will see how Dyment has stretched not only in scale, but in style, as well.

masterworks chorale presents a festive mother’s day concert

The 68th season of Masterworks Chorale will conclude with a program titled “Brides & Lovers” Sunday, May 11, 3 p.m., at Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre, 45 Quincy St., Cambridge. Steven Karidoyanes will conduct the chorus and orchestra in this 50th anniversary tribute celebrating the English composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams. Programmed especially for Mother’s Day, the concert includes “In Windsor Forest” and the orchestral serenade, “Fantasia on Greensleeves.” Baritone Andrew Garland will be featured in the English wedding cantata, “Epithalamion.” Georgetown’s Jack Ward will sing with the Masterworks Chorale.

haverhillrocks 2008 battle of the bands

Performers from all musical genres are invited to register for the HaverhillRocks 2008 Battle of the Bands. Each entrant will get a DVD of their two-song performance. The songs will be aired on Haverhill Community Television in June and fans can vote for their favorite band. The eight bands with the most votes will go on to perform at Winnekenni Castle on August 16, opening up for a national act to be announced soon.
