MVN Awards: AL Cy Young - Cliff Lee
cliff lee spent a full bit of the 2007 season in the minor leagues. he lost four consecutive starts in recent july, pushing him to 5-8 with a 6.38 period.when he returned as a september callup, he only worked garbage succour experience in four games — the indians lost all four.it didn’t look good for 2008. lee hadn’t won a major league game since july 1, 2007.in these circumstances, mlb experts tend to expect what a player needs is a change of scenery. apparently not the case as regards lee, who only needed a fresh start. but for that fresh start in cleveland, he has his gm and neal huntington, gm of the pittsburgh pirates, to thank for that.lee’s name was brought up in trade talks during the offseason. the biggest of which would have sent him to the pirates in a trade involving outfielder jason bay. a trigger was never pulled between the two teams.his thanks can be delivered, because if he would have been sent to the pirates, he wouldn’t have had the type of year he just did. he would have planned gotten hit hard, knackered more time in aaa and probably ended up needing tommy john surgery — i’m straight sayin’.instead, lee went to spring training in hike in a battle for the indians’ fifth starter.and he won.lee didn’t rail against until cleveland’s sixth game of the season, allowing one unearned kind in 6 2/3 innings against oakland. he struck out four and walked one. and he won.six games later he made his another start. again against oakland. this then he allowed one run over 8 innings. he struck out eight and walked none. and, again, he won.in as a matter of actual fact, lee continued to win. he opened the season 6-0 in his first seven starts with a 0.67 (yes, 0.67) cycle. he went on to make 31 starts for cleveland and the team went 24-7 in those 31 games. barest impressive, considering the indians finished 81-81.in only a season, lee went from aaa to nearly a sea-robber to battling repayment for a roster spot, to an all-star and one of the top lefties in the game today.his success in 2008 has been well documented. lee dominated in an obscene amount of appearances. his numbers: 22-3, 2.54 era, 222.3 ip, 1.11 whip, 34 bb, 170 k. no a specific else level pegging came close.”he’s always had the hogwash, but this year he couple that stuff with the skill to locate and trust his pitches,” cleveland catcher kelly shoppach told the sporting tidings after lee was named the publication’s al pitcher of the year.”he had zero uneasiness of throwing to either side of the plate no make a difference who the hitter was.”the matrix quote is potent. a pitcher with good baloney and confidence wishes almost always glean influence. cliff lee is proof of that. endearing mlb’s cy young will just be glaze on the cake.with that, i adjacent mvn’s al cy progeny award to cleveland indians left side-hander cliff lee.
