Dear Texas Fans, SHUT UP ALREADY!
Dear Texas fans,
It’s over. Move on. You are not going to the Big 12 Championship Game. No matter how much you politicked to get a chance to play Missouri in Kansas City on Dec. 6, and no matter how much you wished you would wake up Monday morning to realize Sunday’s results were a dream, it’s not happening. So, shut up.
Please. We are tired of hearing about it already. We don’t care anymore.
This isn’t a dream. It’s reality. A team you beat is going ahead of you. You know, the ones you hate so much up north. Those damn Okies. The ones with the fans that like to contribute money to your university by sticking your longhorn stickers upside down on vehicles just above those nuts they attach to their trailer hooks.
You lost to Texas Tech. Get over it. Texas Tech—despite its 11-1 record this season—doesn’t have the name brand such as Oklahoma or Texas, or even Nebraska.
Realistically, you barely beat Oklahoma’s ‘Bedlam’ rival Oklahoma State…or Pickens State…at home this season. Oklahoma beat Pickens State on the road by 20 on national television.
You have the second best quarterback in the Big 12 in Colt McCoy. Sam Bradford is better. If Bradford defies logic and comes back in 2009, he will be considered one of the best collegiate signal callers of all-time when he’s done. He should be already.
Bradford has 46 touchdown passes and six interceptions. He throws down the field consistently, unlike some of these dink-and-dunk quarterbacks you see every week.
If you are still complaining, there are some fans in Lubbock who also have a legitimate beef. They beat you. Once again, you lost. Get over it. Don’t blame the freshman that dropped a potential interception. Don’t blame the two defensive backs for not pushing Michael Crabtree out-of-bounds. It happens.
Great teams get breaks and a little luck. Yours ran out. Oklahoma’s came on Saturday night against Pickens State. Remember that interception in the end zone against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl? Burnt orange luck. Did it have an effect on the game? Who knows?
Stop calling Oklahoma radio stations to complain. They don’t care. They have plans to make for this weekend. Meanwhile, unless Missouri can pull off the unexpected, you have reservations to make for Tempe, Ariz. for the Fiesta Bowl.
If you don’t like it, beat ‘em worse next year. Hang 70 on everybody on the schedule. Leave no doubt. And beat Texas Tech.
Mack Brown—a coach that I have heard a lot of Texas fans complain about, despite the national title he won—did his part. He came on during the Oklahoma—Pickens State game to politic. Luckily, you have Bill Muschamp as a coach-in-waiting. Mack Brown ought to run for President against Barack Obama in 2012.
He can sway voters and proved it this past weekend. He could sway a nation. He could sell ice this weekend in Kansas City despite bone-chilling temperatures. He could sell Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel a salad.
And you know what, Texas? We didn’t hear much complaining when you leaped over California in 2004. Coach Mack did some serious politicking back then, too. You know he did.
It’s going to be cold up in Kansas City anyway. The colder, the better for you. One, you get to sit at home to watch the game on television. Two, cold weather is an equalizer of talent. Three, Oklahoma has 60 more minutes to prove itself while Texas did its talking on the field. Four, Missouri will move the ball on Oklahoma’s overrated defense this weekend. Finally, Missouri could beat Oklahoma this weekend. Then what?
