Cookin’ Up a Storm
Last Sunday in church, Marlboro Man and I invited the whole dadgum congregation to our house for the Fourth. Oh, we always have a big bash at our house on the Fourth; it’s tradition, and the one day of the year we get to get our yard, driveway, and fingernails really clean. Usually, though, it’s immediate family, cowboys, and a few close family friends. This year, we decided to increase our numbers and welcome pretty much anyone who feels like making the twenty-mile drive to our house.
What I’m trying to tell you is that in addition to weeding my flower beds, scraping bird poop off the porch, picking up bones from our yard, and getting the inside of the house in shape, I’ve been cookin’—cookin’ up a storm. In addition to stuffed hamburgers, blackberry ice cream, sangrias, booze-soaked watermelon, and sundried tomato pasta salad, I’ve been churning out many of my old crowd-pleasin’ stand-bys. Here are the links to the recipes here:

My fingers are numb and pruney, and I’m having a grand ol’ time. And I’m trying something fun! Look over in the left sidebar—see the section that says “Real Time Cooking?” Over the next two days, as I prepare my Fourth-of-July spread, I’ll be posting running updates, letting you know what I’m doing at that very moment as it relates to cooking. I’ll be specific, and I’ll be honest, so be prepared to see some carnage. I’ll probably update the list every hour or so at least, and depending on what’s going on, it might make for some cheap entertainment. At the very least, for those of you who don’t have a lot of experience preparing food for over 100 people, you might see that it’s not really that big of a deal. It’s food—it should be fun!
Have a wonderful day, my friends.
