Curbed Cup 2nd Round: (1) High Line District vs. (8) Far West Village AND (5) Red Hook Waterfront vs. (13) Downtown Brooklyn
The Curbed Cup, our annual award to the New York City neighborhood of the year, is taking on a different tone in this, its fifth running. West Village, Long Island City, Williamsburg—they’ve all been done. Instead, we’re mixing things up by focusing on the most newsworthy microneighborhoods. And now, it’s the second round; updated bracket here.
It’s a quiet quasi-holiday Friday, so rather than play it coy and roll out two separate votes for the Curbed Cup, we’re just mashing both polls into this here single post. A quick overview of the matchups: first up, in a Manhattan West Side faceoff, as top seed High Line District—defined as everything under the ancient elevated railroad tracks that run from the Meatpacking District up to 30th Street, and then loop around Hudson Yards—squares off against #8 seed Far West Village (to wit, everything west of Hudson Street). Then, in a Brooklyn battle royale, #5 seed the Red Hook Waterfront jostles with upstart #13 seed Downtown Brooklyn.
