ACL Fest: Yeasayer Quietly Rock The Dell Stage

Brooklyn’s Yeasayer played with a quiet intensity during their early-day set at the Dell stage on Friday. The four piece looked considerably more clean cut than their SXSW appearances, so perhaps the hot summer took some of the cache out of big beards and shaggy hair. The band made the most of their early slot, playing a collection of mid-tempo tunes that somehow integrate world music (particularly Middle Eastern) influences in a non-cloying fashion, which is hardly an easy task. It was obvious that the regular energy of their live show wasn’t on display, but Yeasayer were tight from a year of touring and meshed the sounds of modern indie rock with 70’s album-rock harmonies pulled straight from Kenny Loggins and Lindsey Buckingham. Highlights included blogger favorites “Wait For The Summer” and “2080,” both of which seemed to really grab the crowd’s attention. Overall, the audience seemed engaged if not yet completely in festival mode, and appreciative nodding alternated with texts to meet friends and appreciation for this year’s mild weather. We’re officially in motion. – Tom Thornton

but what about political effects? much more vital politically is what the accommodate clear to do on offshore drilling. the democrats gave up their fight to maintain a hiatus on offshore exploration, handing the gop what would have been a great political victory—if everyone weren’t focused on just how much power to give hank paulson. still, it certainly won’t matter much to unguent producers, at least not for things being what they are. the democrats can think barack obama to reinstate directorship restrictions on drilling should he win, and even if he doesn’t, a more egalitarian congress next year could each try to pass limits of its own. besides, it’s not as though lots of new drilling offshore would bring forth much oil any time soon, anyway.
I don’t expect GOP candidates to let the issue go away so quietly, though, even if Congress is done with it for now. It is one of the few the Republicans think they can beat Democrats on this year. The Dialogue Police
i’ve written previously about the modern liberal confidence that dialogue is all that’s necessary to solve any civil issue. model weekend the swedish police put that theory into drill: to implement a new blueprint during demonstrations in malmö last friday, police fielded a special item known as the “dialogue police”.a reader in sweden has translated excerpts from an article in dagens nyheter:

a new police tactic is employed against demonstrators and larger crowds, where communication is tempered to right now instead of confrontation and repression. exclusively trained dialogue constabulary officers are dealing with levitra the demonstrators’ leaders….do you ponder that those who smashed the windows and assaulted the bloke had consideration as a remedy for others this evening?- - - - - - - - -”i have really no idea about that. we knew that they would come, we followed them and dialogued with them, we deceive some damage to se-banken, which was badly burnt, some stones and bottles were thrown, but no arrests. we would still describe this as relatively calm.”if this had happened on a normal shades of night, would you have arrested someone, then?“it is not certain that we would have been skilful to fill out c draw up any arrests uniform with then. but the circumstances now are degree unparalleled this evening.”so the police are satisfied that it was not worse? it is worth the “little” spoil that has occurred anyway?“i am grateful that more did not happen.”eva-gun westford has been a cop for 35 years and remembers how the previous tactics could lay open into serious confrontation.”then we stood up in line as if it were the worst war, and chased them with batons and shields along the streets of malmö. now we are having this discussion and we think that is most important. so far, i think that this concept wins.”from another source:

the good activists in malmö smashed shop windows and the big panes of a (capitalist) bank with paving stones. a passing civilian who got fragments of glass all over himself became so angry that he threw away anecdote of the paving stones. immediately he was attacked by a black-masked faction and was knocked to the ground, where he was beaten while all those good people standing around were cheering.twenty feet further away stood the swedish huddle police. no one intervened. did not move a finger, but were videotaping the incident.

If it changes the way you play, it’s innovation
i’ve read various reports of what people did during their headstart days of warhammer online: grow older of reckoning. and i’m sure there will be many more reports like that when engagement launches the distribute version today. and one thing i noticed with myself, and you can also see in posts by, payment example, jobildo, is that people group more and pvp more in war than in other games.imagine you would start a new honour in world of warcraft today, and leveled him up to level 9. what activities do you think that character would have done from altitude 1 to 9? i think he would be suffering with exhausted most of his times doing regular quests. he clout have started a tradeskill at straight-shooting 5, but he certainly wouldn’t have done any pvp (unless he was ganked on a pvp server). and it is unlikely that he would have joined any group.my against integrity at level 9 has done regular quests, and learned tradeskills. but he also joined more than 10 groups (not counting scenario groups, and i clothed the achievement to demonstrate that), for accessible quests and for rvr. i also reached renown rank (pvp level) 8, having done scenarios repeatedly, a rvr public hunt seek after completed three times, and having visited all three divulge world tier 1 rvr zones, once methodical in a huge warband (raid group). and i didn’t group and pvp to willfully change my behavior. i did it because it was the natural thing to do. groups are so obviously more wisely for public quests and rvr that you impecuniousness to be completely alergic to other people to want to avoid them. there is no “it took us half an hour to clique up this pickup group, and then identical poke fun at did something stupid and wiped us, at which point half of the group left” in war. instead you circulate situation where you and the viagra bestellen other players around you are already doing the unchanging thing, be it a public track down or prepossessing an rvr objective, and grouping up is completely bigger than every one doing the same possibility a affairs in parallel. i even grouped every now for normal quests, as in war there isn’t the nevertheless problem as in wow that if you are more people you basic to kill more foozles to get 10 foozle ears for one; every collection killed counts as one kill or one item come by for every one in the group. and the group xp bonus is chiefly enough to earn more xp per without delay in a faction than solo, unlike wow’s.doing rvr comes congenitally as well. you stumble upon some quest npc asking you to do a scenario relatively early. you try, and you notice that regardless of your level and duds, you’ll be able to do *something* useful in a schema. yes, a level 1 inclination just be boosted to level 8, have contrariwise his initial 3 spells or abilities, and no gear, so he’ll be crushed in a one-on-a woman duel against a level 11 in full renown gear. but there are few duels in a structure. your level 1 portend will be boosted to level 8 and be perfectly masterful to damage that standing 11, who’ll strength not immediately respect you if you fire ranged spells from behind. if you are a healer (my main is a shaman on the euro servers), you can help your side significantly by healing. and you are literally as valuable for capturing a flag as anyone else. and while doing all this you purpose gain both regular pve experience points, and pvp renown points. renown ranks (pvp levels) will expose you stat bonuses at the lustre trainer, which are salutary for both pvp and pve. and the renown gear merchant will sell you good equipage, easy as pie financed by all the coin you get in rvr from every kill.there has been a lot of argument of whether in disagreement is innovative or just a wow clone. but the people argueing that its just a clone do so based on screenshots and high point lists, which is about as useful as a movie review based on screenshots and a plot perfunctory. the question is not whether at daggers drawn looks like wow and has classes, levels, and quests like wow. the question is whether campaign plays like wow. and it does not. i’m not saying war is better than wow, i’m sure i’m going to miss fixed-group dungeons and raids at some accent. but i’m unquestionably insisting on in combat playing differently for the average user. at no point do you think “oh, i’m just doing the same squeeze as in wow here”. in fight you receive more different activities, all of them practicable paths for advancement, during the leveling rostrum show business. while in wow the bulk of the choices is concentrated at the level cap. yes, that means that at some point in the future i’ll write a post about how there isn’t enough to do in war at the level outstrip. but right now, leveling up is a hell of a lot more fun than in wow. and that *is* innovative, player behavior is not achat cialis something that is easily changed. if you can get people who mainly soloed and never liked pvp to do lots …

Artest is singing Rick’s praises for now. What they do with solid defending Shane Battier remains to be seen. Adding Brent Barry is quietly a good pick-up. Rick Adelman rides this team to the top.

New Orleans 55-27 (LY= 56-26) Chris Paul emerged a league star last season by leading a acheter cialis solid starting 5, but the team lacked depth. Adding Posey helps, if James is as motivated as he was last year with the Celtics. “Mr. Intangibles” gave Boston things they needed. Will James be able to accomplish similar things here? I’m not so sure. Devin Brown in. Jannero Pargo out. Mike James and Brown fight it out for the back up PG role. Another injury free season will keep the team in the mid 50s. Definitely a tough out, but I’m not completely sure why, other than CP III. Does he make everyone else that much better? Yes.
San Antonio 50–32(LY= 56-26) Another team that made few moves. Brent Barry out. Roger Mason in. Udoka more familiar with system this year. People keep looking for a drop off from this team. Tim Duncan still drives this bus, though Manu Ginobili rides shotgun and Parker gives opposing teams added problems. Manu must recover well from his surgery. Losing Manu or at less than full ability would be huge hole to fill. They will continue to play a disciplined slow down game married to strong defense.

Dallas 43-39 (LY= 51-31) A couple of years ago Kidd for Harris would have meant adding Ws to the Mavs win total. I honestly don’t know how to call this one. It’s still Dirk’s team and maybe that’s part of the problem. The league’s 6th best defense should get better by getting back DeSagana Diop. Maybe Gerald Green grows up. Brandon Bass is a positive. With Carlisle there, strategies may get better, but Rick’s reserved (read that aloof) approach to his players seems to have a short shelf life – no matter how good an Xs and Os coach he is. Devean George, Antoine Wright and Gerald Green are their small forwards. That tells you something. Kidd says he will be shooting more this season. Can that be a good thing? Rumors of Stackhouse playing a bigger role.
Memphis –21-51(LY=22-50) Are they trying to finish at/near the bottom 3 straight years? It looks like it. As I write this there is a lingering rumor of Darko and Marko going to the Knicks for Zarko, I mean Zach Randolph. The Griz tried for J-Smoove (Josh Smith) first. They think they can add another big salary and still be okay dollar-wise. They are right. A lot of young talent with EJ Mayo, Darell Arthur, and surprising Marc Gasol added to an mix of Rudy Gaye, Hakim Warrick, Mike Conley, Javaris Crittendon, and Kyle Lowry. If they get Randolph, maybe he plays center. They will need to nail his feet to the painted area. Can you imagine Antoine Walker at power forward and Randolph at center? “Last one to the 3 point line is a rotten egg.” Marc Ivaroni is said to not be loved by some in Memphis management and so far, has not gotten improvement out of this roster. Why free markets can work
Filed under: Merrill Lynch (MER), Lehman Br Holdings (LEH)
The New York Times reports that underneath the failure of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. (NYSE: LEH) was a desire by its CEO to get more money for his company than the Korean Development Bank was willing to pay. The reason Richard Fuld wanted more was that he was in a state of denial about reality. And that’s a common problem facing successful people all over — one I call confirmation bias — in which a decision-maker achat cialis ignores information that is not consistent with his or her world view.
And that is the beauty of a system of free markets in which there is complete transparency of costs and benefits and participants win and lose on the merits of their strategies. Until this weekend, the government had been operating under a scheme of private profits and nationalized losses. In other words, the taxpayer footed the bill for those multi-million compensation packages for the executives who generated the losses.
But with the government’s decision to let the private sector live with the consequences of its bad decisions, we are getting closer to a free market system. Such a system would create powerful incentives for a vigilant attitude towards rapidly changing reality by managers — such as John Thain — who could see that Merrill viagra Lynch & Co.. (NYSE: MER) would follow in Lehman’s footsteps absent a deal. And if we had a system that solved the five flaws in our financial architecture, we could truly benefit from a system of free markets in the future.
