but what about political effects? much more vital politically is what the accommodate clear to do on offshore drilling. the democrats gave up their fight to maintain a hiatus on offshore exploration, handing the gop what would have been a great political victory—if everyone weren’t focused on just how much power to give hank paulson. still, it certainly won’t matter much to unguent producers, at least not for things being what they are. the democrats can think barack obama to reinstate directorship restrictions on drilling should he win, and even if he doesn’t, a more egalitarian congress next year could each try to pass limits of its own. besides, it’s not as though lots of new drilling offshore would bring forth much oil any time soon, anyway.
I don’t expect GOP candidates to let the issue go away so quietly, though, even if Congress is done with it for now. It is one of the few the Republicans think they can beat Democrats on this year. Americans seem to get riled up about it, too. So the outsized levitra importance of the relatively unimportant drilling question might continue, unfortunately. Especially if the financial crisis gobbles up less headline space in the coming weeks.

i’ve written previously about the modern liberal confidence that dialogue is all that’s necessary to solve any civil issue. model weekend the swedish police put that theory into drill: to implement a new blueprint during demonstrations in malmö last friday, police fielded a special item known as the “dialogue police”.a reader in sweden has translated excerpts from an article in dagens nyheter:

the good activists in malmö smashed shop windows and the big panes of a (capitalist) bank with paving stones. a passing civilian who got fragments of glass all over himself became so angry that he threw away anecdote of the paving stones. immediately he was attacked by a black-masked faction and was knocked to the ground, where he was beaten while all those good people standing around were cheering.twenty feet further away stood the swedish huddle police. no one intervened. did not move a finger, but were videotaping the incident.
