Concerns over Obama?

robot-heart:

Obama opted out of public financing because he knew there was no way that the DNC could keep pace with the RNC in terms of fundraising, and that the only way that Obama could possibly make the money he needed to compete with McCain/RNC was to shirk public financing and go it alone. The DNC’s fundraising was anemic at best. The RNC has more or less managed to keep pace with Obama’s fundraising, and so in the end, the amount of money the two campaigns had was fairly even. Yeah, Obama broke a promise, but is it better to keep a bad promise or to do what is best for your campaign and your leadership?

We all make promises we don’t keep. I guess I would judge that broken promise more by the reasoning behind it and the results of that decision, rather than by the broken promise alone. I mean, McCain promised to run an honorable campaign and to stay away from the negative stuff. We’ve all seen how that’s turned out.

The only thing I have to say about Jeremiah Wright is this: we all know people in our church, in our community, in our workplaces, in our families, even people who are in positions of leadership who command our respect, who believe and say things that we disagree with or that we know to be wrong. While I believe many of the things Wright has said were wrong, you have to put those comments in the overall context of his career. He led a large and diverse congregation in Chicago, he committed his life to doing good works in his community, and he has had a positive impact on thousands of people in Chicago. He is also a veteran, and I think that his service is something that many are quick to overlook. So he’s said some things that were offensive, insulting and inarguably wrong. He’s also done a lot of good things in his life, and I think that to focus entirely on the negative aspects of Wright’s life and career, when he is a man who has done enormous good in Chicago, is to ignore the reality of the man himself and the reality of any relationship that forms between two people.

Holes the movie

Well said.
